FAQ’s
Are film location rentals at my home considered tax-free income?
Under California tax laws, 14 days per year of rent (including film location rentals) are tax-free income. If you rent your home for more than 15 days of the year, however, you must report your rental income and can deduct expenses as rental expenses.
What makes Location Connection different to other location service agencies?
We are a luxury boutique agency, so we work one-on-one with each homeowner and build close working relationships that foster trust and transparency. Although we have the boutique feel, we boast one of the largest location libraries in Southern California, with over 2,000 homes and commercial locations for filming and special events. In our almost 30 years of experience, we have earned a worldwide luxury clientele that turns to us first for their exclusive industry events and shoots. We can also provide full-service event management for our locations if needed.
How do you serve location scouts, producers, and event planners looking for a location?
We respond to time-sensitive location needs with a deadline-driven approach. We will quickly and effectively match you with a premium location for your event or shoot, and if we don’t have exactly what you’re looking for, we’ll scout it for you. We also offer a range of additional services when booking our properties. We will transport you and your client for tours of our properties, handle contracts to secure the location, and provide location site services including property introduction tours and event management. Our top priority is always ensuring that you enjoy the hassle-free process and have a successful event!
I want to coordinate my own event. Does each location require an event planner?
Yes. If you do not have an event planner already in place, Location Connection can serve as a full-service event planner and coordinator. We have organized industry events from concept to completion for over 25 years with full customer satisfaction. Please call us for a complimentary consultation.
How do I submit my property to Location Connection?
It’s easy to submit your residential or commercial property for film location rentals. Simply send sample photos, the property’s address, and contact info to darian@locationconnection.com or click here to fill out our online form.
What can I expect to earn for filming and events located at my home?
Pricing is determined on a case-by-case basis, as price ranges vary based on the size of the crew and the scope of the event or production. Please call us for a free consultation regarding your home and to get more information on earning potential.
Who is responsible for obtaining a filming permit?
The shoot’s producer is solely responsible for procuring the filming permit. You will never be held liable for the responsibility.
What can I expect once my property is selected for a booking?
If your home is selected by a client to be considered as a venue, we will work with you and the client to set up a home viewing tour. Once your home is selected as the venue, we will coordinate at least one, but sometimes several, client tech scouts at the home. We will draft a contract that is to be signed by all parties involved to insure the safety of your home. Location Connection will be the liaison between the homeowner and the client throughout the entirety of the production process.
Does it cost anything to list my property with Location Connection?
No! We never charge anything up-front for listing your properties with us. Location Connection takes a small booking commission, so we are paid at the time income is generated for booking the home. Please call us for more information on our rates and services.
